Clearly cheap.

For my birthday I decided to give my self the gift of decor.  I trotted on over to CB2 and scooped up twenty five little hanging glass votive holders at $1.95 a piece!  Big score here.  My grand plan was to paint one wall of my entry hall/staircase a deep navy then affix these bad boys to the wall in a random pattern.  For special occasions I will put the candles in the holders and light them for a cool clubby effect, but in the meantime I am placing random tiny things in the holders to create a wall of curiosities.  Example: my dog Morris' empty pill vial and a plastic nose pencil sharpener, courtesy of my humorous boyfriend.  I'll post a photo of the final product when I get home tonight.  In the meantime, order a bunch for yourself at CB2, and get creative!

Print making.

The summer in Chicago has been completely absurd- hot, humid and full of mosquitos.  I took off for a quick trip to Brooklyn, NY this past weekend to visit my brother and eight months pregnant sister-in-law hoping for a change of climate.  Well, it was pretty hot there also, but my bro and sis-in-laws place brought on a cool summer vibe.  Two items in particular gave me fever: Their Roberta Freymann/Roller Rabbit quilt and the Madeline Weinrib cotton rug we purchased together at ABC Carpet and Home.

The Quilt: Perfect weight, fantastic print and the softest cotton you could ever hope to touch...or sleep under.  I don't have a photo of their exact print, the website has just a small selection of their offerings, so if you're lucky enough to live in the Hamptons or NYC you'll get the best selection.  Click here for the site.

I'm back baby.

After a long long sabbatical I have decided to return to the Nest Interiors blog.  It seems, via google analytics, that folks are still checking out the site.  I would guess that content from two years ago is not especially interesting, so I'll give you a little taste of 2010.  To fill you in, I have moved from Los Angeles to Chicago and am no longer running my design business full time.  I have one project that I am working on after hours and a day job outside the industry.  This didn't exactly happen by choice, but it is what it is.  Although I am not immersed in design daily as a profession, I still have a crazy passion for it.  I hope to pass that onto you to enjoy.  As always, I am happy to answer design questions and queries via the comment section.
